Is PPF actually worth it in this climate or just overkill?
I’ve been driving my new car for about six months now and I’m already starting to notice the little scratches and swirl marks that seem to appear out of nowhere, despite me being pretty careful with washing and parking away from other cars, and I’m starting to wonder if I should have just bit the bullet and gotten PPF from day one. I’ve been going back and forth on this for ages because part of me thinks it’s just an expensive luxury that I don’t really need, but then I look at the state of some older cars on the road here and the paint looks absolutely wrecked from the sun, sand, and general abuse that comes with daily driving in this region. I’ve read that the UV rays here are so intense that they can actually break down the clearcoat over time, leading to that dull, hazy look that you see on neglected cars, and the constant dust means you’re effectively rubbing abrasive particles into the paint every time you wipe the car down. I also do a fair bit of highway driving which means plenty of stone chips on the front end, and I’m starting to think that maybe a good quality film could pay for itself in the long run by preserving the resale value and saving me from expensive paint correction down the line. I came across an article that explained Why PPF is worth it for vehicles exposed to UAE heat and dust, which made a pretty compelling case about the long-term benefits, but I’m still not fully convinced because I’ve also heard stories about film yellowing or peeling after a few years, which would just be another headache to deal with. Has anyone here had PPF on their car for a few years now and can tell me honestly whether it’s been worth the investment? I’m particularly keen to know if the self-healing properties actually hold up in the summer heat or if the film gets brittle over time, and whether the edges start to lift or collect dirt like some people have warned me about. Any real-world feedback from long-term owners would be massively helpful right now because I need to decide whether to do this now or just accept that my paint will age gracefully like everything else in this climate.
